Proceeding with the philosophy of “People First”, Yeşim has prioritized the empowerment of women in social life since the day it was founded. Yeşim, which is one of the companies with the highest number of female employees in Türkiye, will continue to operate in accordance with its identity as a “Women-Friendly Company” in the future, just as it has in the past, with the awareness of the value that female employees add to the workforce.

As the Yeşim Group's production facility operating in Egypt, one of  the Jade’s focus areas is to promote internal gender equality, and in doing so, Jade has utilized its resources since its inception to create a kindergarten to remove work-related challenges facing female workers and has recently created a women empowerment unit under the HR department dedicated to creating equal opportunities for females working at Jade. The unit was created in line with capacity-building activities that Jade benefited from through the Gender Equality unit at the Ministry of Manpower and gender equality training provided by the ILO, the main training target was to enhance gender equality and provide more information about women empowerment and how to maximize the female workers, which helped Jade to maximize the percentage to 30%.

 

Launching the "Gender Equality and Women Empowerment" unit;

In 2020 Jade created a dedicated unit under its HR department to address gender inequality and promote women empowerment. The main purpose of the unit is to ensure that Jade's gender equality and women empowerment strategy is implemented. The unit has several strategic KPIs that it needs to fulfill:

  • increasing the women's employment rate in the factory to 50%. Currently, the percentage of female workers and employees is about 30%
  • increasing the promotion of women's leadership and technical 
  • promoting the awareness of equal opportunity issues among workers and employees in general
  • adding & increasing the training subjects related to women’s health and non-discrimination and non-harassment community and increase gender equality awareness for all managers and supervisors.
  • Jade Textile was invited to a grand awards ceremony in recognition of its outstanding efforts in maintaining its seal of gender equality and economic empowerment of women. The seal is awarded by the National Council on Women in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The company was selected to receive this seal for its dedication and continuous efforts to implement its plans to promote equal work and support the role of women in the work environment.

 


The main responsibility and scope of work of the unit includes:

Supervise the operations and monitor the performance of the kindergarten and its impact on working mothers,
Update the hiring procedure to apply the childcare procedure for females.
Engage with NGOs for projects of women's empowerment and equality.
Analyze employee data by gender to monitor and evaluate progress on KPIs and assess the impacts of taken measures.
Assist in initiating programs/projects related to equal opportunity.
Conduct partnerships to benefit the objective and mission of the unit.
Update and expand the current gender equality and women empowerment strategy of Jade Textile.

 


Jade Textile has been committed to promoting internal gender equality through various initiatives. One such initiative is the establishment of a kindergarten within the company premises to address work-related challenges faced by female workers. Additionally, a women empowerment unit has been recently created under the HR department to ensure equal opportunities for female employees.

The unit was established in alignment with capacity-building activities conducted by the Gender Equality unit at the Ministry of Manpower and gender equality training provided by the ILO. Its main objective is to implement Jade's gender equality and women empowerment strategy, with strategic KPIs including increasing the female employment rate to 50%, promoting women's leadership, and raising awareness of equal opportunity issues among workers.

Responsibilities of the unit include supervising the kindergarten's operations, updating hiring procedures to accommodate childcare needs, engaging with NGOs for women's empowerment projects, analyzing employee data by gender to monitor progress, initiating programs related to equal opportunity, and updating Jade Textile's gender equality and women empowerment strategy.
